Blank Stage Acting Studios Opening January 2017

It was bound to happen. With the expansion occurring in Woodstock and the continued growth of the film industry in Atlanta. a studio is born on Highway 92. Blank Stage Acting Studios is opening January 2017!  Under the direction of Brent Brooks – Blank Stage Acting Studios will be a fun, challenging, and unique forum to learn the craft and industry of acting.

However, the Blank Stage is far more than an acting studio. It will be the home for live events including music, comedy, and an in-house improv troupe. Additionally, the studio host its own screenwriting group that meets twice a month on Sunday evenings, workshops, showcases, networking events, casting calls and much more.

Brent Brooks is a native Atlantan. Raised in Gwinnett County, he first got a taste for moviemaking after his late father, Brad Brooks, gifted him a VHS camcorder in eighth grade. From that point forward Brent was out casting his neighborhood cohorts filming, writing, creating movies, and experimenting with the craft. He tells everyone, “If YouTube was around when I was a kid, I would be a millionaire by now!” When Brent graduated from Parkview High School in Lilburn, he studied theater and starred in several theatrical shows at Georgia Perimeter College. He continued his acting and study at Georgia State University where he began his first improv comedy troupe, “The Comedy Response Unit” inspired by his college professor, Mr. Robert Lowe, a local improv legend.

After directing his second feature film, the award-winning “Art of Suicide”, Brent started his first black box style performance venue “The Blank Stage” for six years at The Artisan Resource Center in Marietta. There he mastered a new style of improv that combined improv techniques with storytelling methodologies creating live, interactive shows such as “Mr. Right-Enough”, “American Icon Reject Debacle” and “Unpredictable” to name a few. This form of study opened many doors for Brent that helped him get to where he is today. Like many of us who have difficult times in our lives, Brent is no different. However, Brent found healing and sustainable success by working through many personal issues helping others. “Pay it forward, ” he says.

Brent, along with long time friend, Autumn Essie Bailey-Ford, began a local networking event called Get Connected. This January, Get Connected is celebrating its 6th year of connecting industry proffessionals such as casting directors, talent agencies, producers, filmmakers, musicians, and service providers of all kinds. In addition to his networking endeavours, he created a show called ThriveAmerica which showcased prominent business minds devoted to passing on invaluable knowledge in a struggling economy, he has helped numerous actors book roles with his audition taping services and private coaching, he  started and grew a junior acting program from the ground floor at the Professional Actor’s Studio, and last year, he started a networking event designed specifically for junior actors called Kidz Connect!

Brent is married to his lovely wife of 4 years, Lilian Brooks. They are expecting their first child, James Brent Brooks, sometime around the beginning of 2017! The news of a new addition to his family caused him to evaluate what he wanted to do moving into the future as he raised a family. He knew he had the network, the experience, and the drive to own his own business. He knew his style of teaching and training on character archetypes had a powerful impact on his students and peers. What he didn’t know was how to start a business and develop it. For that, he needed partners to help him see his vision.

Fortunately, he didn’t have to look very far. For the past 8 years, Brent developed a close friendship and trust with Anthony Michael and Brian Smith. Anthony is a successful and skilled business owner from Ohio and now co-owner & Business Development Manager of the studio. Brian has come on board to be the Director of Operations for the studio utilizing his skills in the area of administration, law, and document drafting. After coming to Atlanta, Anthony realized quickly  Brent could be highly successful with his own studio. Having the capital to invest and the experience in developing business, Anthony offered to partner with Brent to create Blank Stage Acting Studios. Now armed with a strong team and an amazing network of support from friends, family, and colleagues, Brent was ready to take on the challenge of seeing his dream become a reality.

Blank Stage Acting Studios is located at 11517 Highway 92, Suite 112, Woodstock, GA 30188. The beautiful town of Woodstock made the choice for the studio’s location easy! The growing town has been so welcoming and many doors are starting to open. The studio itself is 4500 square feet. When you first walk into the lobby, you notice an Egyptian theme. The props came from All About Props, a local prop house in Tucker, GA owned by Ted Morrow. The first thing you notice when entering the main part of the studio is the beautiful stage built by Anthony Michael. On the walls, you will find various silhouettes depicting the arts, along with a 20 x 9 painted backdrop!

The studio will be opening in January with its first class beginning on Saturday, January 7th at 10 am. Members of Blank Stage will be the first to know about studio auditions, receive one free member’s only style workshop, half off on industry guest workshops, starter headshots and taping services only available to members. Another unique aspect of the studio is its class format. Each class last 6 weeks except for beginner classes and business improv classes, which are ongoing. Areas of study include; improv, character archetypes, screenwriting, monologue mastery, mock video auditions, filmmakers consortium, and guest teachers.

The best part about being a member at Blank Stage Acting Studios is the fact that you are not studying with just one teacher. Brent considers himself a gifted teacher, but he also recognizes the many other teachers who bring value and unique experiences he doesn’t have. He also understands (being an actor himself), the reality of being with one teacher for months on end. It is important to train with various kinds of teachers. Agents are always advising their actors to try different teachers and to learn different techniques and styles. This concept is built into the classroom model. Every 6 weeks, the student has the choice to stay with their current teacher or learn from another one.
